Verity slings her bag into the booth and takes a seat. She asks a nearby waitress for a cup of coffee and waits. She's looking at the man with his newspaper now, smiling and tapping her foot nervously. She can hear the woman sitting behind her scolding her kids about making a mess with their food. Verity's already formulating a plan in her head; a stealthy way to make a reach around the seat for the purse. Luckily the stranger she's sitting across from doesn't seem overly interested in her presence. He's absorbed in his newspaper and not paying her too much mind.
She casually picks up a spoon and taps it absently on the table. Just a regular customer, waitin' for her coffee. She casts a sidelong look around the restaurant. No one's paying her any mind (why would they?). This is gonna be a piece of cake,
